Welcome to a wintry March QVH Matters
We couldn’t survive without the money we raise from events and the donations we receive from wonderful people. So, first on my list today is a huge, huge thank-you to Tim Lowe and his team for putting on a fabulous Beer Festival. Charities to benefit from the hard work undertaken by Tim’s team included the Dystonia Society and the Queniborough Village Hall Appeal. There was a record attendance, all beer glasses were sold and it was a hugely successful event. I suspect that there were a few headaches in play the following mornings (including mine). Thanks again Tim and Team.
Grants and Hall Developments
– We’ve now had three quotations to re-tarmac our aging, holey, wet car park and as we thought it will be expensive. Unless a rich benefactor comes to our aid, there is no way we could fund the work out of our existing funds. We’re currently filling in new grant application forms to request the appropriate monies. It is vital that we get the support of the community if we are to be successful in this application. So, if you’ve suffered from the mud, holes and wet when parking and think it’s a good idea to sort out the Village Hall car park – let me have your support a short email is all I’ll need.
– Initially we were looking to install our new double glazing in the Easter holidays but we couldn’t get the dates to match properly so we’ve postponed the installation of our double glazing in the Hall until the summer (w/c August 6th and w/c August 13th).
– After reaching agreement with the Parish Council we will be installing a lighting unit on the brick pillar to the right of the entrance to the Parish Council Office which will replace the bent defunct lamppost at the front of the Village Hall.
– I mentioned last time about getting quotations for a loft ladder in the Hall. We’ve had no luck in getting suitable ones so if you can recommend a company who can give us a quotation to supply and fit a loft ladder for us, please let me know.
Addition to the Queniborough Village Hall Management Team Needed
If you’ve ever thought that you would like to give something back to the village and the Beer Festival team is full, now is your chance. We’re looking for a new Booking Secretary to join the team from May this year. You need to know a little bit about IT and have a telephone. You’ll be working with the whole team and be able to join us at our events which, while hard work are also a great deal of fun. Hurrah, no more ‘Numb Bums’!
Thanks to a Community Grant from the Parish Council, we’ve been given approval to order new chairs for the Village Hall. Within the next two months we will be ordering 32 new plastic chairs to stand along the radiators as at present and 168 new cloth chairs which we will use for all our meetings, presentation and events. They are so comfortable that there is a possibility that people will miss things as they fall asleep during their visits to the Hall. I think that’s a small price to pay for such comfort.
If you get your copy of the Gazette in time don’t forget our musical evening on Saturday 17th March featuring Kel Elliott and her three man orchestra -truth and tall tales- uplifting, mischievous bluesy jazz from a rousing quartet led by a smart, sassy double-bass playing singer-songwriter with a rich voice. This will be quality live music by a star in the making. Suitable for 12+; tickets from Mandy or Liz.
Look out for the next event on the horizon which will be our Family Disco Barbecue. It was a great success last year. We intend to hold it on Saturday 7th July, put the date in your diary, more details nearer the time.
