Happy New Year and a great start to 2016

Biffa Award Success

We are really excited and pleased to be able to tell you all that we have been successful in our application for a Biffa Award grant to fund the much needed Village Hall roof replacement.

It was the perfect Christmas present after our year of hard work when on December 23rd we were able to accept the formal offer of a £38,000 grant from Biffa Award. The grant will enable us to replace the roof and forms a major part of the ongoing Hall refurbishment programme. If everything goes according to plan, we aim to have the roof replaced over the Easter period so that it will cause the minimum of disruption to our regular users.

Biffa Award is a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across UK. The programme administers money donated by Biffa Group Ltd through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Gillian French, Head of Grants, Biffa Award said “It is crucial for communities to have places to meet, whether in a dedicated building or an open space, and Biffa Award invests heavily to support them. The new roof will help the Village Hall to continue to provide a warm, welcoming venue for all kinds of community activities for years to come”.

We would like to thank everyone who helped and supported us with our application – knowing that we have the support of the village community is vitally important both for the continued survival of the hall and our success with the Biffa Award grant.

I would like to add a personal thanks to Mike Jones who is no longer on the committee but who I worked very closely with when putting the application together.

Christmas at the Hall

We would like to thank the November 5th Committee for the donation of a rather splendid Christmas tree which meant that we were able to decorate the Hall for Christmas for the first time for a number of years.

Future Events

Fund raising is as important as ever if we are to continue to develop and improve the hall for all the village and we urge you to support these two events that are being held in the very near future.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival show comes to Queniborough: February 6th

After the success of our last Centre Stage show, ‘The Origin of Species’, a sell- out show from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is coming to the Hall on 6th February. Suitable for young and old alike it’s a mix of comedy, narrative, music and slapstick. See the advert elsewhere in the Gazette for details of the show and tickets.
